Today our year 4 cricket team won the county championships. The top school cricket teams from the boroughs of Nottinghamshire were all at the Lady Bay Recreation Grounds competing for the top spot and competition was fierce. The boys soon got in to their stride with 3 consecutive wins to qualify for the semi finals against Burton Joyce School. It was a close game with excellent bowling and fielding from both teams. Our boys edged ahead with calm and assured batting to win the match and secure their place in the final against Bramcote Hills School. Another close match took place with little being given away by either team in the bowling. The boys had to hit 45 runs to win which was a challenging target but they took it on with gusto. Several of the boys hit sixes and several fours to win the match. Mr Burdes was very, very impressed with the positive and supportive attitude of all of the team and even of they hadn't won they were winners in their sportsmanship. Well done!

On Wednesday several of our children competed in a thrilling Rushcliffe Athletics Final at Toot Hill School. It was lovely evening of competition and our children tried incredibly hard against some of the best athletes in Rushcliffe. Harry & Jai won gold in the 600m and shot putt respectively with Bibi, Faith and Millie also winning gold in their relay races. Individually Faith was 2nd in the shot and Millie was also 2nd in the long jump. Well done children!

Today our year 6 girls' cricket travelled to The Lady Bay Recreation Grounds to compete in the cricket county finals. They had a tremendous day, winning all their matches in the group stage to progress on to the knockout stages. The girls built on their success from the morning to win their quarter final. They then faced Oak Tree School in their semi final. We didn't know it but Oak Tree have previously been national champions and have won the county championship for several years. The girls showed tremendous spirit and determination to do their best but lost against a very strong side. They were then treated to a final match against Croft School to contest for 3rd place. The scores were level at the start of the final over. Imogen bowled a super delivery and hit the stumps to give us 5 points. The croft batter then hit the ball on the full to send it sailing past the boundary for 4 runs. Our girls tried to stop them running singles but they couldn't and they narrowly lost the match after putting up a super fight. Whilst they were a little sad to win 4th, Mr B was incredibly proud of the team and their efforts in their first ever county final. Many of the girls have only been playing cricket for a few months and their progression has been exceptional. Well done and get in touch with our local club http://radcliffeontrent.play-cricket.com & http://plumtree.play-cricket.com

On Friday our year 4/5 quads athletics team represented Rushcliffe at the Nottinghamshire School Games. They competed against the best in the county at sprinting, running, throwing and jumping and enjoyed a superb day of competition. The children performed fantastically well and the level of support they gave one another was brilliant. Such teamwork brought out the best in all our athletes and they pushed themselves hard. It was a close competition but our children showed their abilities to win the girls team gold, boys team gold and also 4 individual medals: gold for Josh, Silver for Eliza and Bronze for both Bella and Harry. It was a wonderful day! I would like to thank all the parents who were able to come along and support the team especially Mrs Baxter for being our welfare officer, Mrs King for her gazebo, Mrs Birks for the lovely ice lollies and Mrs Findlay for our super banner!
