On Wednesday night our year 56 athletics team from 2014/15 were invited to the Rushcliffe Sports Awards. The evening recognised the success of many different teams in Rushcliffe and it was wonderful to have been invited to attend the event which featured representatives from Nottingham Rugby and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Team. Fantastically our team won the award of Primary School Team of the Year for its success last year in athletics. Not only did they retain the their title of county champions for the 3rd year running but they were also ranked 8th in the UK.
Our school was also rewarded for continuing to encourage children to participate in clubs and competitions throughout the year and won the Dave Bullas School Games Award. Already this year many of our children have already joined one of our sports clubs at lunch time or after school and everyone took part in our first inter house event - and we're only in November. Keep it up children - you're doing great!

Last night 30 of our children competed in Rushcliffe's 'A' final for Sports Hall Athletics. It is tremendous to think that out of the 58 teams who entered we have 3 in the top 10 in Rushcliffe. Well done to all the children for simply getting that far.
It is fair to say that our teams started a bit nervously but showed super resilience to bounce back from a few drops, slips and falls in the first couple of races. Once the children were into their stride they looked magnificent and were a joy to watch as they raced against the fastest teams in Rushcliffe. The field events were limited to just 3 per child and so every score counted. I believe that last night was the most competitive final I've seen in a long time and it was exceptionally close. Well done children for making it such an super final.
1st Radcliffe A - 35 pts
2nd West Bridgford - 73 pts
3rd Lady Bay - 81 pts

This afternoon the whole school ran in our first inter house event of the year - the annual cross country race. Yrs 3&4 ran the same route as last year of approx. 800m with Yrs 5 & 6 running a new route around the school grounds of approx. 1250m. Whilst it was a little chilly the children's spirits were high and everyone who started, through a combination of running, jogging and the occasional walk, made it to the finish line - which is something every child should be proud of! Please see the attached file for a break down of the results per race and which also features the first 6 runners past the post. Well done children!
Your next inter house fixture is your sports hall athletics challenges which will take place in the week before Christmas - so get training!

Our yr 5&6 girls' football team have kicked off their season with wins in both their opening games of Rushcliffe Big Schools Cup and The County Cup. Last week the team beat Greythorn 9-1 and this evening they beat Barnby Rd, Newark, 6-0 in their cup match and 5-0 in their friendly game. It was wonderful to see the girls enjoying their matches and cheering one another on. The touch line talk is very much about how the girls are developing into players who pass to players who are running into positions. The defence in both teams was also very strong - indeed all the players in the squad of 18 who played this evening put in maximum effort for their team. Well done girls and good luck in the next rounds.

At the end of last term we sent two teams to compete in the Rushcliffe Biathlon Festival at West Bridgford School. Mr Stevens, Miss Tomlinson and Mrs Davies were all very impressed with the children who attended because of their enjoyment and their determination at the competition. The teacher's all feel it was great that there were so many new faces at the event and we hope that these children and many others will continue to pursue their interests in sport.
The results for the festival are attached with this news bulletin but as Mr Burdes was away at Whitby he wasn't able to jot down who finished where in each event - but hopefully you'll be able to work it out.

Last night our C & D teams competed in the Rushcliffe Sports Hall Championship and were brilliant. For several children this was their first competition and Mr Burdes was very proud of how they didn't let the nerves get in the way. The races were very close and 9 teams were battling it out for spots in the upcoming finals. Both our teams ran well with good baton changes and they really excelled in the field events. The results are: 1st Radcliffe C 39pts, 2nd West Bridgford A 45pts, 3rd St Peter's A 57pts, 4th Radcliffe D69pts , 5th Heymann A, 6th West Bridgford B, 7th Greythorn, 8th Heymann B and 9th Willoughby.
Both our teams have qualified for the finals in two weeks time. The C team will join the A & B teams in the 'A' Final scheduled for Monday 23rd November and the D team will compete in the B final on Tuesday 24th November. (These dates are provisional and will be confirmed shortly).

Last night 2 of our sports hall athletics teams competed in their Rushcliffe Schools heat. The children tried exceptionally hard and demonstrated great determination and sportsmanship. The extra edge of competition definitely brought out the best in them with several children posting PBs. The results are as follows:

Our 2 teams have both qualified for the A final which is expected to be on Monday 23rd November - This will be confirmed over the next few days. Well done children!

School Sport at Radcliffe Juniors is going well!
It's mid-November and the inter school sport calendar is well underway. I must say that our children have really excelled so far and look set to continue to do so.
Our football teams are progressing well in both the Rushcliffe Big School Cup and also the County Cup competitions. We have also managed to line up a friendly match for the girls so that nearly every girl who enjoys playing football in year 5/6 will get a chance to do so. Additionally Mrs Allsopp is also in the process of arranging some boys’ friendly fixtures too. Mr Stevens is also taking a yr 4 futsal squad to play in a festival next week. 10 girls were interested and all of them will be involved. The boys will have their opportunity in early December but it is likely that we will pull names out of the hat for that event as we can only take a limited number.
Our yearr 5/6 sports hall athletics teams have all progressed to the finals and will compete again in a couple of weeks’ time. The yr 3/4 clubs have also begun with nearly 80 children attending our 2 clubs. Already the school records are looking under threat and we've only had one week of training. I can't wait to see how the children develop their jumping, throwing and sprinting. The competitions against other schools will be straight after Christmas so there is plenty of time to practise.
Children from all year groups took part in the biathlon festivals and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Several of the teams won and many children were in the top 3 for either the run or the swim (and some did the double!) Wow!
School basketball is underway with our first friendly fixture coming up in a couple of weeks. Mrs Ejezie has really been impressed with the children's attitudes and team work. She is hoping that every child will get at least 1 match this term and will do her best to make this happen. If your child does miss out, please be patient as there are many opportunities after Christmas as well.
In Cross country our year 5/6 teams did the double to win both the girls and boys relays which is a fantastic achievement. To put this into perspective, only 4 years ago my target for a team was to have each child run around the course rather than walk bits of it. How things have changed! Not only does each child run all the way around the course they are winning medals. The lunch time club on a Wednesday is as popular as ever with masses of children of all abilities and year groups enjoying the exercise of running.
Finally Mr Starr and the school tag rugby squad has enjoyed brilliant success at county level. The team were crowned county champions last month. This now means that 5 of our teams are current county champions (athletics, cricket and rugby - also several of our children were in the team that won the county cross country championship). Unbelievable! To build on the success of these children Mr Starr is starting clubs at lunch times for younger children. Dates TBC.
A great start to the year and I hope that by the time we break up for the festive break will have plenty more success to toast! Good luck children and keep training.
