This evening we took 3 teams of year 3&4 children to West Bridgford School to compete in a biathlon competition. The children had to swim 25m and run 400m. For most of the children it was their first competition for the school and they loved it! They all raced as hard as they could and did extremely well. Even though the event challenged quite a few of the children they all made their finishes and should all feel extremely proud of how well they did.
We shall get the results shortly but 'hats off' to Leah for a brave swim and well deserved round of applause when she finished. She really did do her very best in the pool and all of the team were very proud of her. Well done.
Lacrosse is a hit!
Yesterday our lacrosse club played in their first tournament at Toot Hill School against several teams from East Bridgford School and Gunthorpe (These teams are very good and hold many county titles).
We were able to field 2 teams and everyone who was able to play got stuck in to each match. Both our teams played very well throughout the tournament and considering who they were playing they did amazingly well to hold their own. Mr Burdes and the supporting parents were all very impressed and the children were very proud of how they played. Both teams secured at least one win each as well as draws and losses. After each game they showed great sportsmanship and shook hands with their opposition. It was super and even the cold wind and rain couldn't spoil a thrilling afternoon.
Boys County Football Success.
On Monday our football team from year 6 played in a thrilling and close match against Southwark School in the first round of the County Cup.
Our boys went ahead in the first half but Southwark bounced back to level the scores 1-1. The scored stayed the same throughout the 2nd half with both sides getting chances and boths keepers doing everything they could to keep the balls out of the net. Well done both boys.
The clock ran down and at the end of normal time it was decided to play for a further 5mins each way and then go to penalties of the scores were tied.
Thankfully the stress of a penalty shoot out was avoided as our boys scored and then defended tremendously to win the match 2-1.
Congratulations to ROTJS and Well done to Southwark too.
It's a Knockout
On Monday one of our year 6 boys football teams played in a super knock out match against Jesse Gray School. Mr Rossington and Mr Starr reported that it was a tense start to the game with both sides being evenly matched. Just before half time the goals started to come and the result was 2-2 with 20 mins to go. Congratulation to Jesse Gray for scoring and winning the match 3-2. Everyone played their to the best of their ability and should be very proud of their efforts. Our run in the Rushcliffe Cup have now finished but we hope to play some friendly games over the year and there is the County Cup tournament to look forward to.
Our boys are in action again on Monday next week in the first round of the county cup and our girls team will shortly also play their first match in both the Rushcliffe and County Cups.
Good luck everyone.
Tag Rugby Triumph
Mr Starr & Miss Lincoln were delighted to report that our two year 56 tag rugby teams had a wonderful time at the recent Rushcliffe tag rugby championship. Our teams had mixture of experience and new talent (with some children representing the school for the very first time) and played their very best throughout several matches. Everyone at school felt very proud of how our players represented themselves as our teams congratulated their opposition on their good play and scores and shook hands at the end of each game regardless of result. Such sportsmanship was wonderful to hear about.
However the good news doesn't stop there! One of our teams won everyone of their games and were crowned Rushcliffe Champions for the second year running after a thrilling final with Edwalton School. Happily both our team and Edwalton School will represent Rushcliffe at the County Finals next month. Good Luck To Everyone.
Rushcliffe Cross Country Relay Championships for years 5 & 6.
On Wednesday, 24 children from years 5 & 6 competed in the Rushcliffe Cross Country Relay Championships. It was a super event with masses of very, very talented distance runners. Our children were in teams of 4 and had to run approx 1500m each. There were nearly 30 teams in both the boys and girls races with everyone trying their very best.
The boys started the event and The early leaders were Lady Bay School, who put in a superb 1st leg. All of our boys weren't far behind though and were still very much in touch with the leaders. As the race settled into its second lap our boys were pushing on well and all managed to gain places. This continued on the 3rd leg and as they crossed the line they had managed 1st place, 5th place and 10th place. It was amazing to have all of our boys teams in the top 10. Wow!
The girls set off but would face a tougher challenge as many of our squad are in year 5 and there is quite a difference in terms of strength and stamina at this age. However they weren't phased and all did their very best and should be immensely proud of themselves for their effort and support of one another. At one point Maisie ran a super leg and managed to get one of the teams into second place but we weren't able to hold onto this position due to the very high standard of competition. Next year promises to be a very exciting prospect for the girls though as one of teams finished did finish 4th. At the end though all the girls were smiling and happy with what they had achieved. And that is what it is all about!
Keep training and enjoying your running everyone.
Year 5 & 6 Biathlon Challenge
24 boys and girls from year 5 competed in the Rushcliffe Biathlon Challenge at West Bridgford school last week. It was a delightful and fun event that gave everyone a chance to enjoy inter school competition. Our boys and girls had a wonderful time and tried very hard in both their 25m swim and their 400m run. Everyone completed both events with no walking during the run and no stopping in the swim - this is super achievement. Every child should feel very proud of themselves. The school has links with both CABSC http://www.cabsc.co.uk/ & Leander Swim Club http://www.leandersc.com/ for those who wish to develop their swimming further. We also have a super link with Rushcliffe Athletics Club too http://www.rushcliffeac.co.uk/.
Mr Burdes was very pleased that there were so many new faces in the team. Indeed there was so much interest in this event and a cross country race that he very nearly managed to pick 48 different children to compete for the school in just these two events. It is great that so many children are keen to get stuck in.
The results from the biathlon for years 5 & 6 have arrived and are posted below. Mr Burdes tried hard to try and match up times to names but there is a chance that in the swimming discipline that he may have made a mistake. If this is the case then please get in touch and he'll correct it.
