Ikano Mini Marathon Fun

Thank you to all the children, parents and supporters who came along to the mini marathon today. It was a lovely run and Mr Burdes was very happy to see so many happy faces from school enjoying the event as he ran the course with them. The medals and goodie bags were a super treat too! Results from the run will be posted on the Ikano Robin Hood Marathon website shortly. In the meantime, our cross country club takes place on Wednesday lunchtimes so children can continue their running and when children are 8 yrs old they can also join Rushcliffe Athletics Club who train in Bingham.

All clubs are a go!!

Wow! What a fantastic start to the school year. Or sports clubs are now all up and running every lunchtime and also on four evenings after school. Never before have we started the year so well. Whilst there is still a little space in our Yr 5/6 athletics clubs the remaining clubs are full (which is quite sensational!) Thank you for your support.

These tremendous levels of particpation resulted in a suprise assembly for me today which was lovely. Chris Ballard presented us with our Gold School Games Mark and explained we are the first school in the whole of Rushcliffe to achieve this level of national recognition in school sport. I was caught quite unawares by the mischief of Mrs Allsopp and Mr Starr and it turned out everyone knew about the assembly but me! Thanks team.

I hope to see loads of new faces in all of our clubs this year and hope that many will also get a chance to respresent the school in an event. I've been really pleased with our athletics clubs and thrilled with the jumping in our first week and can't wait to see the children improve their PB's over the season as they get more skilled in these events. Have a great weekend everyone!

What a great first week!

Well it's certainly been a tremendous first week back! Our time with Team Sky at the Tour of Britain was magic and the children loved it! Thank you Mrs Ward for giving us this opportunity.

All our sports clubs have started and I've been really impressed with the enjoy and participation in them. I was particually impressed with our cross country runners yesterday lunch time who challenged themselves to run bewteen 3-5 laps of the school field. I had nearly 50 children running and I've not even opened the club up to the year 3 children yet...these numbers are brilliant. Just a quick reminder about footware for this club as autumn sets in - your childs trainers are likely to get wet and dirty so please provide them with an old pair that you ae happy for them to use for this club.

I'm very excited about the start of the rugby world club tomorrow and I know Mr Starr is too. As this competition gets underway the Borough of Rushcliffe will also be hosting its tag rugby competition with successful teams going on to compete in a county final. Like the England team our players will be in the 'pool of death' in the Rushcliffe competition but training is going well and we have a few more weeks to prepare.

Later on today I shall be issued with the school sport competition calendar and will post what events we will take part in. I will try my best to do as many sports as possible and also try to field as many teams as we can. I hope that this would give as many children as possible an opportunity to compete for the school and enjoy competition.

I have posted the first few events in the sports news section and you'll see that up first is a year 34 biathlon. I've entered 3 teams for this and so will need to find 12 boys and 12 girls who can run 400m and also swim 25m. This event is not continuous and so children swim and then after a break they then run. For children who are interested, they need to attend the cross country club on Wednesday lunch times and if selected, then each family will need to confirm that their child can swim 25m without stopping. Last year all children started their swim in the water and so dives are less of a consideration but the will need to be able to turn (perhaps with a tumble turn) as the pool at West Bridgford School is 20m long and they need to swim 25m.

Our school football clubs are also underway with clubs being offered for years 6,5 & 4 with a girls only club open to all ages. After half term we will try to offer other year groups/children an opportunity to take part in these clubs. Additionally our basketball club starts tonight after school.

It's certainly all go!

C'mon England! (and the home nations).

P.s. Ikano have informed us that the mini marathon packs will arrive in school this week. They haven't arrived just yet but when they get here we will distribute them to the children to bring home. I hope the training is going well. I'm up to about 2km now.
