September 2016

Basketball clubs and Athletics clubs start next week.

Please see below copies of the basketball and athletics club letters. Space is limited but demand is huge so we will need to run our clubs in a way that allows children to participate.

Mrs Ejezie is running set nights for year groups in basketball and Mr Burdes will be running blocks of sessions for groups of children. Both teachers hope that everyone who has expressed interest in the clubs will have an opportunity to join in a some point this term. Should they miss out in this particular block of sessions there are many , many other clubs that they can join in with at school and also many local clubs outside of school too.

Modern Biathlon - open to all - October 28th.

Below are details of a super event for children who love swimming and running. The modern biathlon requires children to race against the clock in a 50m swim and an 800m run. The event is taking place at Harvey Hadden Sports Village which is a fantastic facility and well worth a visit. There are Under 10, Under 11 catagories as well as groupings for older children as well. Everyone is welcome to take part.

The most successful athletes will have a chance to qualify for the National School Final at Crystal Palace (London) in March 2017.

I hope many of you enter and enjoy the event - I'm even considering the teacher race on this one....from Mr B:)

The following week (commencing 26th September) we will also start our after school  Yr56 sports hall athletics club  and Yr56 basketball clubs.

Please keep an eye out for permission letters on our website and in your child's bag.

Autumn Term Clubs .

Our extra curricular clubs begin to be phased in from next week. There will be lots happening and we hope the school website will be able to keep you up to date. To ensure that your child is able to make the most of their time in our lunch time clubs, we would ask that that they bring a packed lunch with them.

Starting next week (12th September) , will be several clubs that your children will enjoy.

Monday Lunchtime: Mike Aspinall will be running a lacrosse club from approx 12.30 - 1.15pm for years 5 & 6

Tuesday After School: Jennifer Manderson will be running the RUSH Dance Academy for children in years 5 & 6

Friday After School: Nick Gordon-Brown will be running a football club for year 4 boys after school 3.15 to 4.30pm.

The following week we expect to start our athletics clubs for year 5& 6, 3 additional football clubs, tag rugby and cross country. The details of these clubs will be posted shortly.

Saturday Inter Schools Cross Country League - open to ALL.

Cross Country League 2016-17 (Saturdays).

If your child has been inspired by the fantastic Rio Olympic Games then you may be interested in the inter school cross country league. The races are open to all and take place on 3 Saturday mornings during the Autumn/Winter. Entries are £2 each and children can simply pay on the day. The races cater for year 5/6 children as well as secondary school ages.

The races are open to all children up to a maximum of 8 children per race per school. As they take place on a Saturday morning there can be clashes with other clubs and so it is unlikely that  we will exceed our quota so there should be a place for your child.

If you intend to go, it would be nice for your child to mention this to Mr B so that he is aware.

Details of the events are featured with this news article.

Good Luck.
