How You Can Support Your Child at Home
Reading
Children are expected to read at least four times a week, as reading underpins all other areas of learning. Please record their reading in their reading diary and ensure it is signed by an adult each week. To support their progress, you can use the comprehension sentence stems available on the school website to enhance their understanding of the text. Take time to discuss what your child has read and explore any new vocabulary they encounter.
Spellings
Spelling rules are explicitly taught in class. New spelling lists will be sent home every Friday and tested the following Friday. These lists are available on the school website for your reference. To support their practice, children should use Spelling Shed to reinforce their learning of weekly spellings.
Homework
Homework will be sent home on Fridays and should be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. Children who do not return their homework by Thursday will attend Homework Club during break time with a teacher. Additional details about homework for the term will be shared after the parent information meeting.
Thank you for your continued support in helping your child succeed in their final year of primary school!
