How You Can Support Your Child at Home

Reading

Children are expected to read at least four times a week, as reading forms the foundation for all other learning. Please record their reading in their reading diary and ensure it is signed by an adult each week. To further support their progress, you can use the comprehension sentence stems available on the school website to help deepen their understanding. Spend time discussing what your child has read and exploring any new vocabulary they have encountered. Children should have bring their reading diaries to school every day.  Pine and Magnolia class check reading diaries on a Wednesday and Rowan class check them on a Friday.

Spellings
Spelling rules are explicitly taught in class. New spelling lists will be sent home every Friday and tested the following Wednesday. The spelling lists for each half term are available on the school website for your reference.

Homework
Homework will be sent home on Fridays and should be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. Children who do not return their homework will be given time within school to complete their tasks.
