Peer Mentors
At our school, Peer Mentors play an important role in helping to create a caring, supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and listened to. Selected Year 6 pupils receive specialist training from the NHS Mental Health Support Team, equipping them with the skills to support younger children during playtimes and around school.
Peer Mentors are there to offer a friendly listening ear, help children talk through worries and encourage them to develop strategies to manage their emotions and build resilience. While they are not there to solve problems, they help children feel heard and supported and can seek further adult support when needed.
The Peer Mentor programme reflects our school values of being kind, curious and brave. Our mentors demonstrate kindness through their compassion and willingness to support others. They show curiosity by taking the time to listen, understand different perspectives and explore ways to help. They also display bravery by taking on this important responsibility and helping others to find the confidence to overcome challenges.
As part of introducing the role to the school, our Peer Mentors shared the following message:
"A Peer Mentor is there to help and to cheer,
To listen, support you, and always be near.
They show others kindness in all that they do,
A role model at school, looking out just for you."
We are incredibly proud of our Peer Mentors and the positive contribution they make to the wellbeing of children across the school. Through their support, they help ensure that our school remains a place where everyone feels safe, respected and ready to thrive.
